Think About the Weather
While a bride’s #1 priority when it comes to choosing a wedding dress should always be that she loves it madly, there are a few other things to take into consideration – especially if you are planning a destination wedding! Most destination weddings are in tropical locations, so you’ll want a gown that is comfortable and breathable in the hot weather. Opt for light, flowing fabrics rather than stiff, heavy fibers. Charmeuse, silk, and cotton are all great fabrics for destination weddings as they are lightweaight, and while elegant, can be styled to have a fun edge.
Length and Style
Destination brides have so many gorgeous gowns to choose from! You can wear a tradition ball gown style dress if that is what suits your fancy, although many destination brides opt for something a little more casual. In fact, many warm-weather brides even opt for a wedding dress that is shorter than the traditional floor-length gown. A tea-length dress (which falls between the knew and the calf) is still quite modest, but works well with beach weddings as you won’t need to worry about your gown trailing in the sand.
Budget Friendly
Of all the wedding dress styles available, beach brides have the best of both worlds – and the price tags to prove it!
If you are travelling to a non-beach destination, such as a ski lodge or a winery, you’ll also need to consider your surroundings. Look up the average weather for your wedding day, and make sure you’ve got the right accessories for yourself as well as your bridal party – parasols, sunscreen, or gloves, anyone?

Travel-Friendly
When purchasing your gown, it’s very important to consider where you will be travelling with it! 
How will it get there? If you are flying with it, will you carry it on the plane with you, or pack it and send it with the luggage. Is sending it by courier a better option? Depending on where you travelling to, you might need to bring your own emergency kit, which should include a sewing kit, clear nail polish, and possibly even an iron!
Certain fabrics are more difficult to travel with than others (linen is well known for needing a good iron!). When you arrive at your destination with your gown, remove it from it’s travel bags immediately and hang it up to let it breathe. Inspect it carefully and make sure that no damage has been done. Some hotels offer a cleaning service – it’s up to you if you want to use this or not!
Being a destination bride makes all the planning that much more exciting – after all, you’re planning a vacation as well as a wedding! Don’t stress about the details – once you arrive you’ll feel a deep sense of calm. Consider a special photo shoot in the newest fashion – trash the dress! Splashing in the waves, running through snow, or laying in the grass will make for simply out-of-this-world photos that you’ll treasure forever!
