Garden Wedding Ideas

-- Garden Wedding Ideas --

Getting married in a garden full of greenery, flowers, shrubs and blooms is a natural choice for the couple who loves the beauty of the outdoors!

Aside from the fantastic photo shoot backdrop, a garden wedding can be as simple or elaborate as you wish. You can dress up the outdoors with lots of decorations – or let Mother Nature do the work and simply enjoy her bounty. From the simplest garden ceremony in mom’s back yard to an elaborate outdoor affair in a rented outdoor space, garden ceremonies and receptions are always romantic, timeless, and elegant.

Seasonal Surroundings

Depending on where you live, you may hold an outdoor garden wedding in virtually any season. However, it goes without saying that the most favored time to enjoy a garden wedding is in the spring or summer. Recently, more and more brides are choosing a fall wedding. No matter what time of year you choose to hold your celebrations, a garden can be the perfect backdrop.

Cost Effective

It can be very cost effective if you plan to hold your ceremony in the garden of a friend or family member. If you are already homeowners, and are lucky enough to have a garden / backyard that is big enough to host your affair, you are in luck! Not only will you save money by not having to rent a location, but you can also invest in your space: a bit of landscaping and perennials are something you will be able to enjoy for years to come, and will increase the value of your home! You may even consider a stone path (aisle) leading to an archway or gazebo. The structure will be yours forever, so it is a much better investment than renting space for just one day!

Delight in Décor

If you want to jazz up your outdoor space, all it takes is a bit of creativity! Tulle is a lightweight net fabric that is easy to work with, and creates a wonderful ambiance! Use it to add a stylish touch to fence-posts, pillars, aisles, benches, and chairs. Balloons, ribbon, and flower arrangements are also excellent ways to bring an everyday garden to life!

Thinking Logistics

Lighting is oh-so-important - you may need to have an electrician stop by to make sure you are able to use as much lighting as you plan!. Think fairy lights, hanging lanterns, and flickering candlelight. If you are having a garden wedding, you will also need to iron out all the plans before-hand. Consider parking – where will guests park, and how will you point them in the right direction? What is it is very hot and sunny? Guests will need some sort of shade, fan, and maybe some cool refreshments. Or, what if it rains on your wedding day? You will need some sort of a back-up plan!

Garden Theme

Marrying outside can become a complete theme! Have your invitations include an image of a garden, let your cake be adorned with flowers, and say “thank you” to your guests by leaving them with a lovely reminder of your garden-dream wedding: a package of seeds or a small flowering plant make memorable gifts.

Getting married outside is gorgeous and exciting, but don’t forget to plan around all the little details. Whether you’ve rented a historic garden for the day or are saying your vows in Aunt Lucy’s backyard, your wedding day will be filled with beautiful flowers, fresh air, and lots of friends and family. Have fun planning – and don’t forget to check the Farmer’s Almanac to help plan around the weather!
