Gothic Wedding Cakes

Gothic Wedding Cakes

Planning a gothic-inspired wedding? Don’t forget about the cake – after the vows are over, a dramatic wedding cake might just steal the show!

(If you're interested in making your own wedding cake, there's an ebook that might be perfect for you! Its called Frosted Dreams, and its full of tons of info on creating and decorating your own wedding cake. I definitely recommend taking a look!)

Research

The most important part of your wedding cake is coming up with the idea! Be creative. Spend some time surfing the net, chatting with other “gothic” brides, and discussing your ideas with friends and family. Hit your local bookstore and look at wedding cake books for inspiration – remember you can start with a base idea and then change it to suit your own personal taste. Once you’ve come up with a basic idea of what you would like, it’s time to pay a visit to your local cake baker. He or she will be able to work with your ideas to come up with something really special! From taste and flavoring to design and style, work with your baker to come up with something you truly love!

Spookily Delicious!

For a Halloween style wedding, or a wedding with a bit of a “dark” side, you may choose to have gothic wedding cake with a bit of fright. Think bats, dark colors, and spider webs! Your guests will be dying for another slice!

Chic Gothic

You don’t have to be having an all-out Halloween affair to be inspired by gothic styling. Indeed, the dark colors, lines, and swirls of Gothicism are very stylish, and can be combined with a modern wedding for a contemporary look and feel.

Adding dark reds, blacks, and deep violets add rich accents to Gothic wedding cakes and help to give them a gothic feel.

Dark & Delicious

Of course, dark colors offer more than a dramatic look – they can be full of flavor as well! Rich chocolate ganache, dark espresso fillings, and mocha frosting are all delicious! A black forest cake is the perfect inspiration for your gothic wedding cake. The delicious cherry mixed with the rich dark chocolate is a mouth watering combination! Trade cherry for raspberry or cranberry for an updated flavor offering.

Damask & Delectable

Black and white is a classic wedding theme that can be inspired by a gothic edge. A damask pattern on your wedding cake is eye-catching, gorgeous, and will simply steal the show! If you don’t mind your guests staring at the cake instead of the beautiful couple for a few minutes, go ahead and have your baker make a damask cake. This classic pattern is bold, dramatic, and perfect for your gothic-inspired nuptials. Ask your baker to pipe the pattern onto your wedding cake with royal icing. This is often done by piping the pattern onto a piece of wax paper and then transferring the hardened frosting onto the cake. A base of fondant is the perfect backdrop.

Gothically Yours

Consider combining one of the hottest wedding trends with your gothic theme – a monogram! You can have your initials as a cake topper or piped onto the cake itself – using an old fashioned font to add a gothic twist.

From scary gothic twists to subtly inspired accents, your wedding cake is a reflection of you and your new spouse as a couple, as well as the overall theme of the day! Remember, cake is for eating – so relax and enjoy your evening by having a slice – or two!
