Halloween Wedding Cake

Halloween Wedding Cake
Getting married on or around October 31?

Whether you choose to give a subtle nod to this scary holiday, or go all out with orange and black to the nines, you can include your wedding cake in the fun!

Get Inspired

First things first: you need a vision! Rent Halloween movies, visit Halloween websites, and make notes – lots of notes! Keep a special folder full of pictures of Halloween wedding cakes you love. Don’t forget to look at regular wedding cakes as well – with a few special touches you can bring a traditional cake to “spooky” in no time at all.

Color Combo

Two classic Halloween colors come to mind as soon as someone says Halloween: orange and black. Purple is also a popular Halloween color. You can modernize the theme by using a very pale orange instead of a traditional pumpkin color, or add accents in silver or gold. Black and white can be used to create an elegantly gothic look, or go for the unexpected with silvery blues and lavenders.

Halloween Flavors

You can choose any flavor you like when it comes to your wedding cake! Halloween brings chocolate to mind – opt for rich dark ganache, decadent truffle fillings, and chocolate flavored buttercream icing. If your want an ornately decorated cake, you may choose fondant instead. Your cake decorater will be able to guide you in the right direction, and should be able to dye your icing to virtually any color you love. Consider having an orange flavoring added to orange icing for a lovely chocolate-orange combination which will tantalize your guests’ taste buds.

Spidery Delight

Nothing says spooky like a few well placed spider webs – and if they appear on your cake, it’s frighteningly elegant. Choose a base color and then have your cake decorator create a spider web design over the entire cake, or just part of it. Pulled sugar can add drama, or simple piping can do the trick. Bonus: this is fairly easy for the beginning cake decorator to pull off, so go ahead and do it yourself – just be sure to practice a few times before hand!

A Haunted House

You can create a dramatic wedding cake by taking inspiration from haunted houses and creepy castles. Let each layer of the cake be a level of the castle, complete with painted-on windows, sugary gargoyles and maybe even a few “bats” flying overhead!

Topsy-Turvy

Halloween is the perfect time of year to go a little wild with your cake. Create a visual spectacle by having your baker create an imperfectly stacked cake – it’s modern, funky, and can be very stunning!

Cake Toppers

Halloween Wedding CakeDon’t forget to put the finishing touch on your Halloween cake: a gothic inspired cake topper! From eerie skeleton couples to vampires and spiders, you will be able to find the perfect Halloween topping for your cake. Visit party stores, shop online, or ask your baker for tips on where to pick up this piece of memorabilia.

Halloween Cupcake

Mini, individual cakes each adorned with a black bat are fun, delicious, and quite easy to make yourself if you are so inclined. Or, create a grave yard theme by lining up the cupcakes just right. Black, white, and orange miniature cakes are also a delicious and personalized route to take when considering your cake options. Consider decorating each one with a spider, a bat, or another Halloween scene that suits your fancy.

Subtle Touches

If your wedding is close to Halloween and you don’t want Dracula painted on your wedding cake, you can still create an elegant display cake encompassing this dramatic holiday. Consider topping a dark chocolate cake with orange sugar flowers for a more subdued effect.

Having a Halloween-themed wedding is just as much fun to plan as it is to attend. If you have a long enough engagement, don’t forget to run out to the shops after Halloween the year before your wedding to stock up on lots of inexpensive holiday finds! When you celebrate your wedding, don’t be scared – even if there are a few vampires eyeballing your cake!
