Mexican Wedding Cakes

-- Mexican Wedding Cakes --

If you and/or your hubby have a Mexican connection, you will most likely be serving a traditional Mexican style wedding cake..

A Cake of Many Names

Made of the finest butter, the purest vanilla, and the highest quality of nuts, traditional Mexican wedding cakes are a real delicacy. Also known as a Russian teacake, a Viennese sugar ball, a Swedish teacake, or an Italian butternut, these delightful round “snowballs” are a real treat – and generally saved for fiestas like celebrations, weddings, and parties. Insist that your baker uses only the finest quality ingredients to ensure the best results. These can be piled on to a tiered cake tray and served to guests right after dinner.

Fruity and Fabulous

Another option for a traditional Mexican wedding cake is to serve a rum soaked tropical fruit cake. You can modernize this flavour by serving a more westernized wedding cake, with some tropical elements, such as a pineapple filling, or a coconut frosting. You can even modernize it a step further by serving the cake in a new way – one smaller cake per table, or individual sized cakes embellished with fruit and nuts.

Chocolate – Mexican Style

Add a bit of heat to your wedding cake for real mole spin on your day! The slightest addition of chilli to your chocolate elements will give a gentle heat – don’t go overboard! Or, purchase a chocolate sauce that features a bit of this sin-sational warmth, and have it drizzled over the top of your cake. Or, combine ancient Mayan flavourings to your cake – after all, they reportedly invented cocoa! Since Mexico is also famous for its coffee, you might serve a mocha cake, with a combination of espresso, truffle, ganache, and decadent chocolate covered coffee beans. Rich vanilla bean is also a delightful addition – this is no ordinary vanilla!

Aztec

If you want to go visual with your Mexican themed wedding cake, have your cake creator develop something that will count as your “something old” – a complete Mayan pyramid made out of cake! Gold detailing and ornate design work with an Aztec feel will make your cake stand out!

Flamenco Flare

You can add a flamenco-inspired feel to your cake by incorporating bright colors, like red, yellow, and green! Choose bright, vibrant colors in highly contrasting shades. Want to present your cake with style? Have a real team of flamenco dancers cha-cha-cha their way in to present the cake – and then make the party last well into the night!

Religious Symbols

You can use your cake as a way to incorporate some religious symbols in your reception. Crosses are such an inherent part of most Mexican cultures – have your cake shaped like a large cross, or have a series of crosses etched into the frosting. You can also have your cake decorator work with your frosting to make it look like it has been covered with lace, and add some lacy non-edible accents to decorate each cake tier. Hosting a Mexican fiesta is so much fun – from the food and dance to the passion and romance! Your cake can be bold and contemporary, traditional, or a mix of the two. The most important aspect of the cake? You need to really love it!
