Seashell Wedding Cake

-- Seashell Wedding Cake --

Saying “I do” on a beach or near the water is so romantic! From the stunning sunsets to the picturesque shoreline, it’s the perfect backdrop for an amazing affair. And when it’s time to eat cake, why leave the seashells on the beach? You can incorporate a seashell wedding cake into your reception!

Delectable Seashells

Why decorate a cake with flowers or frosted designs when you can accent it with the gorgeous jewels of the sea? White chocolate seashells, sea urchins, starfish and conch will look stunning when artistically arranged on a simply white tiered cake. Fondant provides the perfect backdrop for artistic shells, with its smooth, silky finish. Have your cake decorator pipe a nautical scroll, coral, or waves along the bottom of each tier.

Cascading Seashell Wedding Cake

While the most popular way of decorating a cake with a seashell motif is to use the shells to separate the layers, you can get creative with your seashell placement! Why not have them appear to be cascading down the side of the cake, out of one larger shell on the top (all made of sugar, of course!).

Color Selections

A seashell themed wedding cake is perfect for an all-white motif, which offers a simple elegance. Rose or cream hues are all also stunning. For a more whimsical look, brides may wish to have a pale blue fondant, or a dark chocolate fondant. Seashells could be made to suit their natural colors, or all of one shade. The result? A stunning cake that will remind guests of their day at the beach!

Ocean Elements

If you want to have a seashell theme for your wedding cake, you can bring it to life by having other whimsical ocean elements! Poured sugar can create gorgeous “beach glass,” or have your cake made to be shaped like a sand castle. Mermaids, dolphins, crabs, and coral are all likely to make appearances! Don’t forget to ask your cake decorator to include edible pearls!

Make It Special

Half the fun of a wedding cake is the presentation! If you want to have a seashell wedding cake, bring the theme together by presenting the cake on a bed of “sand” which your cake decorator can create out of brown sugar. Use real shells to decorate the table, and have floating candles in colored water placed in tall vases to really set the mood!

For the DIY Bride

You can create your own seashell wedding cake at a fraction of the price! High-end, intricate seashell cakes can cost over $1000. Consider purchasing a simple tiered cake from a local bakery and decorating it on your own! If you are an experienced baker, you may even bake the cake on your own. You can purchase seashell shaped chocolates from virtually any chocolate shop, and elements like edible pearls are so easy to find. Candy molds are also a great idea – they are simple to use and quite inexpensive. Simply fill the shell-shaped molds with melted chocolate, and put them in the refrigerator until they harden (about fifteen minutes). You can then dust them with edible sparkles for a bit of glimmer. Carefully place your decorations on the cake prior to the event and voila! Your cake will be transformed from a simple wedding cake to a magnificent seashell cake fit for a mermaid queen!

Having a beach wedding theme is such a fun way to tie your ceremony into your reception. If you didn’t have a beach wedding but love the idea of a seashell wedding cake, don’t worry – it will make your guests feel like they were at the beach! Between the delicious decorations, the artful presentation, and the delicious cake, your seashell cake will be one that everyone remembers – just don’t forget to take a few photos before it disappears!
