Snowflake Wedding Cake

“Baby it’s cold outside…” might be your wedding song if you’re opting for a snowflake themed day. If the snow and the crisp winter air are romance defined, you’ll have to take it a step further by offering your guests slices of heaven – from a snowflake themed wedding cake. After all, just like you and your groom, no two are alike!
Timing, TimingIf you’re getting married during the cold winter months, a snowflake cake is a natural choice. But don’t limit yourself! Maybe you got engaged on a ski hill, or are heading north for your honeymoon – a snowflake cake will be just as delicious on a hot summer day! Consider serving an ice-cream cake to really make it a chilly affair!
White on White?Snowflakes have an ethereal quality to them – especially when they are combined with a strikingly elegant wedding cake. White on white is an excellent option for your cake - but don’t limit yourself! A deep blue provides a gorgeous background, or a pale blue can work with your wintery theme. Silver accents offer the perfect addition, and you can even use colors one might not normally associate to snow, such as red or baby pink. Northern lights, anyone? -- Snowflake Wedding Cake --
How it’s doneThere are so many different ways you can incorporate snowflakes into your wedding cake. They can be stenciled onto a fondant draped cake, or molded from sugar paste or marzipan and carefully arranged on the cake. Fondant is also an excellent choice for creating magical snowflakes. A basic base of royal icing, fondant, buttercream, or cream cheese is the perfect background – and edible glitter is a must! Swiss meringue is also a wonderful alternative and will look like tightly packed snow. A tiered cake is perfect for a snowflake theme so you can create snow-fall effect, with mounds of snow plus scattered snowflakes. For a dreamy result, ask your decorator to make tiny snowflakes made from royal icing, increasing in size down the cake – this will make it look like the snow is actually falling.
Etching & StencilingYour decorator will have lots of ideas when it comes to turning your cake into a winter wonderland. He or she may be able to stencil the design right into your fondant icing. Or, they will have special ways of pressing a designing (like a stamp) into your icing.
Table DécorDon’t forget to decorate your table to match your theme. Fake snow, tulle, and fairy lights will all pull your look together. Add some snowflake Christmas ornaments to the table, such as silvery and blue balls to add to the theme even more (they look stunning in large glass vases!). And don’t forget the icicles!
Cake TopperA snowflake cake topper is magical, romantic, and relatively easy to find. Create your own by visiting shops close to Christmas time (or just after for great deals!) – you can use ornaments to create a magical topper of your own. Snow globes make wonderful cake toppers as well – and after the wedding is over, it can become a cherished holiday decoration. No matter how you choose to work snowflakes into your wedding day, the result is dreamy, wintery and delicious! Have fun finding new and exciting ways to bring your theme to life – you might even be able to make it snow during your first dance! It might be cold out side – but with all the love in the air, your hearts will be warm! -- Snowflake Wedding Cake --
