Towel Wedding Cake

-- Towel Wedding Cake --

Want to give someone a unique gift for a wedding, a shower, or a housewarming party? Consider putting together a fabulous “towel wedding cake.” While it won’t taste very good, it will be spectacular, and be cherished for years to come! A towel wedding cake can be used as a centerpiece, in a wedding night gift basket, or as part of a bridal or spa shower theme.

The Recipe

To create a beautiful work of art, you’ll need two bath towels, three hand towels, two washcloths, and safety pins. You’ll also need some ribbon, flowers (use silk flowers to avoid staining) and a platter to keep the entire arrangement on. Make sure as you work that your towels are very straight (an iron will help achieve this).

The Steps

Start by folding the bath towels into thirds (lengthwise), and then arrange them end to end, with the ends overlapping just slightly. Next, fold them in half again (lengthwise) and pin them together. Roll the towels tightly and secure it with a ribbon and/or pins. Your result should look like a round cylinder, perfect for the base of your “cake.”

Repeat this step with the handtowels and washcloths. Then secure the three tiers one atop the other. You can then decorate the cake with ribbons, petals, and other floral items.

For a unique look, use towels that match the couples’ wedding colors. Or, use towels that they had registered for so they are really happy with the gift! You can also tuck spa-items throughout the cake, such as bath salts, lotions, candles, bubble bath, etc.

Ribbon

You may wish to wrap the base of each layer with a wide bit of satin ribbon to make it look even more like a cake! You can also wrap the entire towel wedding cake in cellophane when you are done to hold it all together. Top it with a bow and you’ve got a show-stopping gift! This fabulous present can double as centerpiece!

Variations on a Theme

You don’t need to make the towel cake out of bath towels. Consider beach towels for a beach wedding! You can accessorize it with fun beach accessories such as sunglasses, sunscreen, hats, and magazines! You can hide treats within the folded towels for a fun surprise. This theme can also work well as a kitchen gift. Use tea towels and placemats or tablecloths as your base – any textile will do. Add spatulas, whisks, cooking magazine or oven mitts to the exterior.

Cost

A wedding towel cake can vary greatly in cost, depending primarily on the quality of towels that you choose to use. You can purchase towels at discount shops or during special sales to save money. The items that go into the cake can be quite inexpensive if you are creative. Some inexpensive ideas include bath salts, candies, and small household items, many of which can be found at a dollar store.

A towel wedding cake is a fun and creative way to put together items that might otherwise go into a gift basket. By presenting the towels and gifts in a unique way, you will create a gift that the recipient will remember forever!
