Planning on Having
A Wedding Dress Cake?

-- Wedding Dress Cake --

Wedding dresses are gorgeous, romantic, and feminine – and if you are head-over-heels in love with yours, you might want to feature it as part of your wedding cake!

For a bridal shower, an engagement party, a stagette or the main event itself, a cake that borrows it’s style from the bride’s gown is sure to impress!

A Full Silhouette

There are several ways to pull off a wedding-dress inspired cake. The first is to have your cake designer create a cake that is shaped like a wedding dress – preferably similar in style to the gown the bride will be wearing on her special day. This can be done by imagining the bodice would sit atop the cake and the “skirts” are the layers of the cake. Using a layered cake and white fondant, the designer can create a cake that actually looks like a bride, or at least a full gown. If you don’t wish to vertical, a wedding dress cake can be created “flat” by having a sheet cake cut to look like the silhouette of a bridal gown, and then decorated accordingly. For added style, feature the back of the dress, replicating corsetry, ribbons and bows with sugar, fondant, and piping. Consider having a tuxedo-inspired cake created to match, for a beautiful pair of delicious desserts. You can also feature a plain round cake with the design of a textured wedding gown artfully decorating the top – fondant can be folded in such a way that it replicates the pleats of a satin gown, and details can be carefully added to imitate lace, organza, beadwork, or sequins.

Wedding Gown Elements

If you don’t want your wedding cake to be an exact replica of your gown, you might want to take some elements of your dress to the cake-level. If you’re wearing pearls, or have pearl detailing on your gown, consider having pearl embellishments on your cake. Or, if your gown has a specific accent color or embroidery pattern, these elements can be mirrored in your cake for a look that is continuous and uninterrupted. For an added touch, decorate your cake table with a fabric that looks like it could have been from the same ream as your gown – if your dress has been made by hand, you might even have the same seamstress create a special tablecloth, which can of course become a treasured heirloom!

Miniature Cakes

Add enchantment to your wedding day by serving your guests artistically created miniature cakes in the shape of wedding gowns. You might serve them as a set, with a matching groom. Cupcakes can be made to look like fairy princesses wearing full skirts by attaching a tiny bodice in the center – which can be made by your decorator out of sugar. Or, serve cookies shaped like your gown! Whether you choose to carry the wedding gown cake theme as your actual wedding cake, or as a gift for your guests, it’s sure to surprise and delight each and every one in attendance!

From the bridal shower to the wedding, there’s always room for one more sweet. Make yours one to remember by taking unexpected inspiration from your wedding gown. After all, they say a bride doesn’t find her dress – the dress finds the bride. And if looking at your dress encourages you to make that wedding cake extra-special, then why not?!
