If you plan to bring a bit of old-fashioned western charm into your wedding-day mix, the reception will be full of celebration, good cheer, and maybe a few cowboy hats!
HorseshoesHorse shoes are considered a sign of good luck everywhere – so why not incorporate these delightful emblems into your wedding cake? You can feature a simple cake with two intertwined horseshoes acting as a cake topper. Your baker can concoct the horseshoes out of many different materials, including sugar, biscuit, or candy. You can also feature a non-edible cake topper, which can later double as a lovely keepsake – consider having a glass set of horse shoes made, with your names and wedding date inscribed in the base. Or, look for a resin cake topper in the shape of a saddle, a heart, or a couple of cowboy hats.
Chocolate LeatherYou can have your cake artist create a delicious cake that’s made to look like leather, complete with “stitching” and rope detailing. Have you seen the cakes with ribbons around the base of each layer? Your decorator can put a western spin on this theme by creating sugared “belts” around the base of each layer – complete with fancy sugar-silver detailing! Fondant is the perfect type of frosting for your leather cake, as it is versatile enough to make it look like any style of leather you like (patent or worn!). -- Western Wedding Cakes --
Decorate Your OwnIf you’re hosting a western wedding, you can keep it budget-friendly by taking care of some of the details yourself. Consider ordering a plain cake and then decorating it yourself. You can create a brown picket fence around the base quite simply, by using fondant cut into strips and placed directly onto the cake (be sure to practice first!). Add flowers to match your wedding-day bouquet, and decorate the top with a cake topper you’ve ordered online that reflects your theme.
Cake in Boots!Ask your baker to create a one of a kind cake, in the shape of a fancy cow boy boot! You can even have his and hers cakes – one shaped as a fancy lace up complete with a heel; and one made to look like a manly leather boot. Or, serve up cupcakes with tiny cowboy boots stenciled onto the top of each one.
Western ColorsHave you chosen the colors for your western themed wedding day yet? The colors you love for your bridesmaids and floral arrangements will look just as gorgeous on your wedding cake. Look for deep reds, sunflower yellows, and burnt oranges. Pale blues or lavenders work well with chocolate brown or ivory. Classic prints like gingham or a basket weave look are also fabulous additions to your color scheme, and can be as traditional or modernized as you like. Want to really lay on the western charm? Serve the cake yourselves – it will give you the chance to meet and greet each guest. However, if you have a lot of guests, it could be a little too time consuming! Instead, do a “walk through” and say hello to guests as they enjoy a slice – be sure to ask how they are enjoying the cake! -- Western Wedding Cakes --
