Winter Wedding Cakes

Winter Wedding CakesA winter wedding is romantic, beautiful, and memorable!

As the cold weather swirls outdoors, the happy bride and groom and all their guests celebrate inside, by the light of candles and maybe even a fireplace. When the wedding cake is served, guests always delight in its stunning appearance, and then, shortly after – in its decadent taste. Why not incorporate the elements of your winter wedding into your cake?

Winter Color

When it comes to winter colors, you can choose to either go very very pale, or very very dark. If you choose lighter hues, think of a snowy day: white, pale blue, pale pink and pale lavender all come to mind. For a richer, darker look, choose jewel tones and deep hues that contrast sharply with white, such as deep burgundy, emerald green, chocolate brown, and dark violet. You might choose one color as your main theme and then present it in two distinct shades, such as pale baby blue and dark navy. Once you’ve chosen your color scheme, you are ready to choose your cake flavor to match.

Winter Flavor

There are so many choices when it comes to choosing the flavors of your cake! For chocolate lovers, there are many different flavorings you can choose within your adored chocolate. Chocolate mousse, rich espresso, mocha, ganache, and dark chocolate shavings are all delightful options. Add a fruity edge with a traditional winter combination: chocolate and cranberry, dark cherry, raspberry or orange are all delicious. You can spice things up a little by having your baker add hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, or vanilla.

Christmas Wedding Cake

If you love the spirit of Christmas, and your wedding is planned for some time around the holidays, you can implement some of your favorite Christmas dessert traditions into your wedding cake. A traditional rum based fruit cake can make up the base of your cake: dress it up with a rich cream cheese frosting! Love candy canes? Create a peppermint paradise by having your buttercream frosting flavored with that childhood favorite. Christmas doesn’t just have to be a taste: it can be the entire look of your cake! Have your cake decorator work a bit of magic and transform your cake into a stack of holiday gifts, a stocking bursting with wedding delights, or a happy gingerbread man and wife.

Snowy Season

Snowflakes, piles of snowdrifts, and wintery scenes: these are the things that dreams are made of! Create a delicious wedding cake with white-on-white embellishments. Your cake decorator can make marzipan snowflakes, or have your entire fondant topping etched with a snowflake pattern. For an elegant look, consider featuring just one large, jeweled snowflake atop a tiered stack of single-colored layers in rich ivory or cream. Or, have a garland of sugar snowflakes draped down one side of the cake for a modern and stylish cake.

Winter Cake Toppers

A cake needs a cake topper like a princess needs a tiara! Your cake will love you right back when you adorn it with a gorgeous topper. You can choose to be humorous, elegant, funky, or traditional! Many toppers can be removed from the cake and used as decorative element in your home or a family heirloom when the wedding is over. For a winter wedding, consider a glass topper to give your topper an ice-like look. Remember to find out all the details about your cake topper before ordering it: such as how heavy it is, how large it is, and when it will arrive!

When the snow is falling outside, and the candles are flickering inside, your celebrations will last long into the night. The cake cutting ceremony is one of the most memorable parts of your reception. Have fun choosing the perfect cake, the most beautiful topper, and the best backdrop. But remember, you’ve already chosen the most perfect element of your wedding: your partner!
